Review | 2015 Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P are ready to mingle!

Posted by Nicolae Cell on Rabu, 30 September 2015

After a much wait finally Google announced its two flagship phones and a tablet along with some other products. I must mention here that all the rumors and/or leaks we heard in last couple months were almost true (at least I came across the true one). Despite showing off three gadgets in the conference Huawei made Nexus 6P was the show-stopper expected. Here in this post I will talk about all the two phones from Google, kind of first impression, as title suggests.

The new 2015 Nexus line

Let's begin with the most anticipated device of the year, Huawei made Google Nexus 6P.

Huawei Nexus 6P

When news broke a couple month later the launch of 2014 Nexus 6 that Chinese giant Huawei will be partnering with Google to build the next Nexus everyone was skeptical about the forthcoming Nexus and its build quality. And when we got the first leaks of 2015 Nexus' back panel we saw outburst on Internet and lots of trolls on the Social Media.
But, as the device is launched, the picture is pretty much clear now and I must say, the back panel of new Nexus 6P is not at all that ugly as we thought at first. The black strip at the top where the camera resides isn't doesn't come out that much.
Lets talk about the Hardware first. This new Nexus 6P has got aluminium body structure and ccomes in three colors - frost white, aluminium & graphite (Frost white is my personal favorite).

Huawei made Nexus 6P has a fingerprint sensor, titled by Google as 'Nexus Imprint', at the back of the device as shown in the above pic. Google claims it takes less than 600 milliseconds to  read your finger-prints and can be used during payments via Android Pay in addition to unlocking your device. Fingerprint sensor is circular and positioned subtly below the camera strip where usually our index finger lies making it easier to access the sensor to unlock the device and perform many other related tasks.

Back panel of this Nexus sports its iconic nexus imprints. with Huawei logo at the bottom.

This Nexus comes with 5.7 inch 1440 display, 3GB RAM, an Octa Core 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 and a 3450mAh battery which should suffice to power up the massive 5.7" display throughout the day.Nexus 6P has dual front facing speakers. This Nexus also has a USB Type C as expected but the silver-lining is it comes with fast charging feature, something which was missing from OnePlus and Samsung's respective flagships of the year. It has a 12MP camera on the back and a whopping 8MP camera for selfies. Camera quality claimed by Google seems to be over the edge when comparisons with last year's Nexus 6 & this yearr's iPhone 6s were shown at the event. The back camera has a laser auto focus & great support for the low light shots

The device will sport latest Android v6 Marshmallow, which was announced in the last I/O in San Francisco. You can read about its feature here -  'M' for Marshmallow!.

Nexus 6P comes in three variants 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities without expandable storage options. The base model (32GB) will start at $499. Pricing will increase with the expansion of storage options. 64GB Nexus will cost $549 and 128GB will cost $649 in US market. All the variants are available for pre-order and are unlocked means off-contract. Nexus 6P is ready for pre-order on Google Play Store.

LG Nexus 5X

LG had already designed an iconic Nexus for Google a couple years ago - Nexus 5. 2013 Nexus 5 is still any developer's 1st choice. This new Nexus from LG is supposed to be an advanced version of Nexus  (2013), made by the same company. With some improve specs and a decent price tag on it, it is Google's new budget flagship. But is it worth all the hype and the price tag? We will know once the device gets in our hands. Till then we will have to rely on the specs sheet only.

The new Nexus 5X from LG

Nexus 5X, unlike its big brother - Nexus 6P, is covered within a plastic uni-body with finger-print sensor(Nexus Imprints) at the back below the revamped camera. Inclusion of Nexus Imprints will be the biggest feature to this upgraded version of 2013's Nexus 5. Google claims it will match with other manufacturing giants like Apple and Samsung's finger-print scanners. The other biggest feature beside inclusion of Nexus Imprints is its camera. Google was more emphasizing on this new camera than anything else at the event. It has got a 12MP  with a very large '1.55 micron pixels' camera at the back which is capable of shooting 4K videos as well.

Nexus 5X comes with a 5.2" display at 1080x1920P resolution (441PPI density), 2GB RAM  and a Quad-Core 1.44GHz CPU with Adreno 418 GPU. Nexus 5X also sports a USB Type C port at the bottom which supports fast charging. It comes with two storage capacities - 16GB and 32 GB, without support to the expandable storage. With this limited storage capability it is hard to say about the likelihood of its success in near future. Battery of this new Nexus 5X is improved from its predecessor, now it sports 2700mAh battery which could last a full day on a normal usage.

Nexus 5X sports Android's latest version Marshmallow. It is a new version of Android, lanuched in the last I/O (Google I/o 2015). Nexus 5X is equipped with all the features Marshmallow offers, like finger-print sensor.

The new Nexus 5X will cost a moderate price to the consumer as it is labeled "Top of the line performance at an affordable price." 16GB Nexus 5X will cost $379 and the highest version, 32GB storage nexus 5X will cost $499. Both the versions will be off-contract . Nexus 5X is ready for pre-order on Google Play Store

I will be comparing both devices with their predecessors and other notable choices you could get in the same price range. Subscribe to the blog to read out more about Nexus lineup & reviews.
